The Alpha and the Omega: The Unsung Hero for Skin Health

Essential Fatty Acids, Omegas, and True Skin Health

There's a conversation I have with clients often...

They're doing everything right: facials, pharmaceutical-grade skincare, consistent routines, and yet something still feels off.

Their skin isn't holding hydration. Inflammation lingers. Results don't last the way they should.

And this is where I kindly guide them back to something foundational...

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS.

What are EFA's (and Why Do They Matter So Much?)

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are exactly what they sound like... essential.

Your body cannot produce them on its own, which means you must get them through supplementation.

And when it comes to your skin, they are not optional, instead they are structural.

EFAs (especially Omegas 3, 6, 9, and 7) are responsible for:

  • Supporting a strong, resilient skin barrier
  • Reducing inflammation and sensitivity
  • Maintaining hydration at a cellular level
  • Regulation sebum (oil) production
  • Supporting healing, acne, and aging skin

Translation: If your skin is dry, reactive, acne-prone or aging prematurely, there is almost always a deficiency or imbalance at play.

Quality and sourcing is super important when choosing an EFA supplement.

I prefer a plant-derived source. Most people are familiar with fish oil supplements. Fish oil is most commonly extracted from farm-raised fish, which can come with a host of concerns such as heavy metal toxicity, antibiotic use, and unclean living conditions. Fish get their omegas from algae, so I prefer to skip the middle man and go straight to the source.

I have two favorites that I recommend for my clients:

DMK EFA+ supplement: I have been recommending this supplement to my clients for 6+ years now. It has the widest range of essential fatty acids, and has an excellent extraction process which allows you to get the most out of your supplement. It contains Omegas 3, 6, 9, and 7, and are also derived from Seabuckthorn Oil (to hydrate from the inside out) and Evening Primrose Oil (which help maintain hormone balance.) You can check it out here.

Alpha Omega Supplement: I recommend this supplement to my clients who are unable, or not keen to taking pills. This supplement contains Omega 3, is 100% vegan and gluten-free, and naturally preserved with olive oil, lemon, and rosemary. You can find it here.
